Femtanyl is an EDM pop group from Toronto, Canada. It started out as a solo project by Noelle, the bands lead singer, but has since evolved into a duo with Juno. They're known for hard-hitting lyrics and a unique sound profile, often resonating with queer and furry communities online. Their songs are about mental illness, death, self-hatred, and suicide. It's definitely not for everyone, but it's comforting somehow.
Femtanyl's sound is very similar to that of older Underscores, JPGMAFIA, Danny Brown, ISSBROKIE, and machinegirl, a lot of those listed have even collaborated with them from time-to-time. If you're a fan of any of those artists listed, please give femtanyl a try, I'm begging you.
I will link the set that I saw live here. please give them a listen, some of the best music I've heard in a long time.
The bands "mascot" is a cat named token. Token is on all of the album art for their music, and is often shown in grusome, gorey sitiuations
for me, token constantly being in some sort of pain or harm is relateable in a way. token is never scared, never worried, never sad, it always either looks happy, bewildered, or manic. for some reason, that speaks to me. never being able to show emotion and always smiling. being in the worst pain ever and still smiling. its guts could be ripped out and all over the floor and its stil smiling.
never being able to be yourself, show sadness or fear, it feels like me.
i got to see them live in seattle, it tops the tyler concert in my opinion, i've never been in a space where the people are like me in a way. it was comforting, it felt like home.
i was able to be directly in front, right next to the stage entrance, and i was able to mosh.
now, when i tell you these are the most gorgeous women i've ever had the pleasure of seeing, i mean it. it was so magical and euphoric, seeing these people live their lives to their hearts content. i swear i died and went to heaven that day, i still think about it.
i feel like if you're a fan of them, you need to see them live at least once, watching these women perform and dance and scream and feel is so so so so amazing.
